Financial education celebrated by A.S.F. during global money week

Bucharest, 18 March 2022 - The Financial Supervisory Authority (A.S.F.) will organise a series of actions dedicated to the promotion of financial education among children and young people during Global Money Week (GMW), from 21-27 March 2022.

The events, which will take place as part of GMW, aim mainly to raise awareness of the importance of financial education among teachers, pupils and students, and to improve children and young people's access to financial education concepts and information.

Global Money Week is an opportunity for A.S.F. to launch a new financial education programme, Start4Life, aimed at children and young people in foster care. The programme will provide young people with lessons in financial education and general economics, which will help them to adapt financially when they leave foster care. The programme will initially target young people aged between 16 and 18 and will eventually cover all age groups. The programme will be joined on a voluntary basis by lecturers from entities in all three regulated financial markets, and the Institute of Financial Studies will offer free vocational training to some young people to help them integrate into the labour market.

"Financial education is, as I have said many times, a strategic mission of the Financial Supervisory Authority. We will continue to carry out programmes and projects dedicated to pupils, students and the general public, as through education we will be able to contribute to the development of the financial markets and the Romanian economy", said the President of the Financial Supervisory Authority, Mr. Nicu Marcu.

Global Money Week is an international event held under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where entire communities join forces to foster better financial literacy, challenge outdated financial policies and provide young people with the tools and inspiration to shape their own futures. The initiative brings together organisations from nearly 170 countries and involves more than 40 million children and young people every year.
