The Financial Supervisory Authority actions during World Investor Week

Bucharest, 25 October 2021 - The Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) joins, from 25 to 31 October 2021, for the fifth consecutive year, the approaches initiated by IOSCO (International Organization of Securities Commissions) to celebrate in Romania “World Investor Week - WIW”.

This concept was launched by IOSCO to raise public awareness of the need for financial education, in the context of a changing financial market and increasingly risk-based behaviour.

FSA’s active contribution to WIW 2021 is the organization of educational events, the development and launch of new information materials for the general public to raise awareness of the importance of acquiring capital-specific financial concepts.

Because of the situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the recommendations of social distancing, as well as following the restrictions imposed by the authorities, the events will be held online.

WIW is opened by FSA and the Bucharest Stock Exchange, with the participation of several high school students, who will ring the opening bell of the trading session and who will participate in an interactive online seminar. Within WIW, a series of actions are then scheduled, which will be organized both at the level of pre-university and university education, and at the level of the general public.

Events organized by FSA under the auspices of WIW

  • “The bell rings at BVB!” - event that will bring together online at the Bucharest Stock Exchange a group of students at the opening of the trading session. This action aims to raise awareness of issues related to the stock market among young people, its accessibility as an investment mechanism.
  • “FinClub program” - FinClub is a finance “club” for high school students who are passionate about this field and who have expressed a desire to have knowledge specific to financial markets at a more advanced level than the knowledge taught in compulsory education.
  • “Academic Laboratory” seminars - the program supported online by FSA and addressed to partner universities, in which students have the chance to analyze case studies and interact directly with professionals in non-banking financial markets.
  • “Student Club” Program - this program is in its second edition and is addressed to all students passionate about finance, regardless of the field of the faculty. Students participate in practical workshops given by professionals in the financial markets, which will help participants to develop their financial skills and knowledge.
  • Academic FinHub - is a program dedicated to university centers in Romania that aims to facilitate dialogue between universities and the business environment in the non-banking financial field, in order to increase the level of financial education and support for university education. The second edition of Academic FinHub is taking place under the auspices of WIW 2021.
  • “Financial Wellness” Seminars - a program consisting of online financial education workshops for companies and their employees to provide financial support.
  • The new issue of the electronic journal of FSA, dedicated to pre-university teachers, is launched to celebrate WIW 2021 - we thus provide support information for teachers, supplemented by some elements that can be used in teaching activity.
  • Under the auspices of WIW, FSA and capital market entities offer free access to students from partner universities to demo trading platforms dedicated to practical understanding of how the stock market works, thus encouraging and supporting the learning process.
  • Central Depository joins FSA and will offer, for one week, starting with 25 October 2021, the possibility to register the IBAN account free of charge for the holders of financial instruments.

The Institute of Financial Studies also joins FSA in the approach, and will organize within WIW 2021 a series of seminars in collaboration with FSA, as well as the Conference “Scientific research in the financial field. Challenges and solutions”.
