Bucharest, 21 December 2022 - The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has published the results of the stress test on the environmental risks to occupational pension funds (IORP - Institution for Occupational Retirement Provision).
In the first climate stress test of the European occupational pension sector, EIOPA set out to assess the resilience of IORPs to a climate change scenario simulating a sudden transition to a green economy as a result of the delayed implementation of environmental policies.
With a sample of 187 IORPs from 18 countries, the stress test covered all European Economic Area (EEA) countries with significant IORP sectors. Romania was not included in this exercise as, although the legal framework governing the operation of occupational pension funds is in place, no such fund has yet been authorized.
