ASF celebrates financial education during Global Money Week

Bucharest, 17 March 2025 – The Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) is organizing, from 17 to 21 March 2025, on the occasion of Global Money Week (GMW), a series of actions dedicated, in particular, to promoting financial education among children and young people.

The actions carried out in the framework of GMW are mainly aimed at raising awareness of the importance of financial education among teachers, pupils and students, as well as the adult population, and at improving the access of children and young people to financial education concepts and information.

As a novelty, the events organized by ASF in this year's edition of GMW will take place both in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova, as part of the partnership between ASF, the Institute of Financial Studies (ISF), the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM), the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) and the National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF).

"Financial education is a fundamental pillar in the development of an informed and financially responsible society. For the Financial Supervisory Authority, financial education is not only a strategic objective and an institutional responsibility, but an essential investment in the future of the young generation. I strongly believe in the importance of familiarizing, from an early age, with concepts such as personal financial management, savings and investments, which will help in making informed financial decisions throughout life", said Alexandru Petrescu, the ASF President.

The GMW week will feature a series of interactive workshops, seminars and presentations for pupils, students and teachers, as well as adults, providing an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to improve their financial literacy.

During the first event of the GMW week, Gabriel-Ioan Avrămescu, the ASF First Vice-President, opened the trading session at the Bucharest Stock Exchange, together with high school students from the capital. The students also participated in a seminar aimed at helping them to understand the stock exchange.

"Financial education is a powerful tool that can make the difference between a stable and uncertain financial future. By running extensive financial education programs dedicated to pupils and students, the Financial Supervisory Authority aims to help young people be better prepared to navigate a complex financial world. It is only through education that they will be better able to face the financial challenges that may arise in their lives", said the ASF's First Vice-President at the event.

Today, the ASF lecturers are holding a series of actions at the Land Forces Military School for WOs and NCOs "BASARAB I" of Pitești, but also at the Ecological College "Prof. Univ. Dr. Alexandru Ionescu" of Pitești, as part of the Start2Learn program. On Tuesday, 18 March, as part of the Start4Life program, an interactive workshop will take place in Craiova, with the participation of children in the protection system of DGASPC Dolj. On Wednesday, 19 March, ASF lecturers will hold an Academic Laboratory at "Valahia" University of Targoviste, and on Thursday, 20 March, a webinar dedicated to members of the Romanian Body of Chartered Accountants and Certified Accountants (CECCAR) will take place, within the Financial Wellness program.

During the entire GMW week, ASF lecturers will hold a series of financial education workshops in Chisinau for students from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.

Global Money Week is an international event under the auspices of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), where whole communities come together to foster greater financial literacy, to discard outdated financial policies and to give young people the tools and inspiration to shape their own futures. Launched in 2012, the initiative brings together organizations in 176 countries and involves over 60 million children and young people.
