Joint press release on the accreditation of the financial education course for teachers who teach the compulsory subject "Social education" to 8-th grade students

Bucharest, April 6, 2021 - The Ministry of Education and Research, the National Bank of Romania, the Romanian Association of Banks, the Romanian Banking Institute, the Financial Supervisory Authority and the Institute of Financial Studies announce the accreditation of the only comprehensive course "Economic-financial education for teachers". teacher in secondary education who teaches the discipline "Social Education" to eighth grade students. Starting with the 2020-2021 study year, financial education has become a compulsory subject for 8th grade students, being included in the "Social Education" discipline.

The Romanian Banking Institute (IBR), founded by the National Bank of Romania and the Romanian Association of Banks, is the provider of the free course accredited by the Ministry of Education and Research, for a period of 4 years, by Order 3,559/2021 on accreditation of continuing education programs.

The institutions involved in this national approach invite the teachers from the secondary education who teach the discipline "Social Education" to the 8th grade students to enroll in IBR, starting with April 2021, according to the information displayed on the institution's website www.ibr- After graduating this course with a duration of 40 hours, teachers will obtain 10 transferable professional credits.Teacher trainers are economics teachers.The training initiative was also supported by the School Inspectorate of Bucharest.

This public-private institutional approach, through which teachers are trained to teach financial education, is the cornerstone for the acquisition of economic and financial knowledge by eighth grade students and to improve financial behavior.

The course is part of the financial education projects carried out by the Ministry of Education, the National Bank of Romania, the Ministry of Finance, the Financial Supervisory Authority and the Romanian Association of Banks, based on the Collaboration Agreement concluded in 2018. The collaboration agreement provides for activities common goals in the field of financial education and the elaboration of the National Strategy for Financial Education.
